Download

Clicking on the Download link from the left-hand navigation menu will display the File Download dialog box. You should select the "Save this program to disk option" and click Ok. A window will be displayed requiring you to specify a location to store the file. Once you have specified the desired directory, click the Save button.

The File Download window will display a status bar as it downloads the file. The estimated time left will become more accurate as the download progresses. In general a 5 MB file will take approximately 30 minutes to download at 28.8 Kbps, 10 minutes at 56 Kbps, and 5 minutes at 128 Kbps. Web browsers have a tendency to drop a connection after a specified period of inactivity. You can avoid this problem by keeping your e-mail client application open and setting the properties to check for mail every 1 minute. This will simulate network activity and should keep your connection alive until the download completes.

Installation

It is generally a good idea to shut down all other applications before beginning a new software installation. Users of Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 must logon to the client computer using an account with Administrator privelages for the workstation. Windows 95 and 98 users can ignore this step.

The WinZip Self Extractor provides a method to package a software application as a single compressed executable program. When the user double-clicks the program, the extractor will display the following window. Clicking the UnZip button will automatically unzip all files to the temporary folder specified and launch the installation program.

Windows Installer

Users with operating systems prior to Windows 2000 will be required to install the new Windows Installer Setup program prior to installing the SNAPSHOT! application. This should only occur the first time you run the installation. Users who do not encounter the following dialog should proceed to the MDAC Installation instructions.

Once the Windows Installer Setup has completed it may require you to restart your computer. This behaviour is typical of Windows installations and is required for registering new components. If you restart your computer, you will have to resume the installation by double-clicking the snapshot.exe file.

MDAC Installation

When the installation proceeds it may display the following message related to the Microsoft Data Access Components. You will be unable to continue the installation of the SNAPSHOT! application until you install the MDAC installer. You can download the MDAC installer at http://www.hockeystats.com/mdac_typ.exe or, if you are installing from a CD-ROM, the file will be available in the Support subdirectory of the CD-ROM.

Windows 95 users must install DCOM 95 before proceeding with the MDAC installation. You can download DCOM 95 at http://www.hockeystats.com/dcom95.exe or, if you are installing from a CD-ROM, the file will be available in the Support subdirectory of the CD-ROM. Users who do not encounter these messages can proceed to the SNAPSHOT! Installation instructions.

The following screen will only be displayed if the installation requires you to first install the Microsoft Data Access Components. In this case you should choose the Close button and then proceed with the MDAC installation.

The Microsoft Data Access 2.1 installation program requires you to to respond to a Microsoft End-User License Agreement. This is a standard legal disclaimer and you should select the Yes option.

The Microsoft Data Access 2.1 installation warns you that it cannot install system or shared files if they are already in use. This means you should close all other applications before continuing with the installation.

The Microsoft Data Access 2.1 installation provides only a Complete option and forces you to install to your Windows System folder. Click the large button next to the Complete option to proceed with the installation.

Once the Microsoft Data Access 2.1 installation completes you will be required to restart Windows. This behaviour is required for registering the installed data access components. Choose the Restart Windows option. Once your system is rebooted, you must double-click the snapshot.exe installation file to continue with the SNAPSHOT! installation.
